Transition Assistance Program
The Military & Family Readiness Center is here to assist Service Members and Spouses during your transition from the military to civilian life.
Effective 21 November 2012, Public Law 101-510, H.R. 2433 and Executive Order 13518 mandates all separating or retiring service members complete newly established components of the Transition Assistance Program in addition to Pre-Separation Counseling, DD 2648/-1. It is mandatory that separating/retiring members contact the Military and Family Readiness Center at 707-424-2486 to ensure requirements are completed, according to established timelines, prior to date of separation.

Step One: TAP Initial Counseling
For those who are separating/retiring, you MUST make an INITIAL COUNSELING appointment immediately for your transition.
*MANDATORY* You MUST make an Initial Counseling appointment before scheduling all other transition classes.
INITIAL COUNSELING STEPS:

Complete the tasks on the 1. Initial Counseling step-by-step Guide. Take a screenshot of your LinkedIn profile and DS Logon and SAVE. ​Go to the link 2. TAP Documents which includes the TAP SOU, Self-Assessment and ITP forms. Fill out the TAP documents and SAVE these items to your desktop. ​​

​Email the TAP Team at travistapteam@gmail.com (do not send your documents until a TAP counselor contacts you)
- Request an INITIAL COUNSELING appointment. Share your professional and personal contact information, DoS, terminal leave date, nature of separation status and Travis AFB Squadron and any other pertinent information. Mention that you have completed all the actions and documents (checklist can be found on page 2 & 22 on the step-by-step guide below).

You will be assigned a TAP Counselor within 72 duty hours. Once assigned please send all required documents/tasks to your counselor's official email.

Within three business days of receiving your documents/tasks at his/her official email address, your counselor will offer you an appointment to meet one-on-one. During your Initial Counseling session, you will discuss the next steps and sign up for the mandated classes.

Step Two: Pre-Separation Briefing
Pre-separation briefing is due no less than a year before service members plan to officially leave the military. This is a workshop packed with information about available benefits and transition help. We also have TRICARE, TMO, and SBP briefers attend as well as other agencies that are here to assist our transitioning members and their spouses about the available resources. Your TAP Counselor will register you for this briefing.

Step Three: Transition Assistance Program Workshop--- 3+2 (5 Day)
This workshop consists of M&FRC, VA, and Department of Labor. The M&FRC discusses how transitioning service members and their spouses, shift their lives from being centered on the military to being focused on the civilian world. This day focuses on resilience building, learning how to manage their own transition, translating their military occupational specialty into a civilian career, and the impact on their taxable income and creating a financial plan for post-transition. The Department of Veterans Affairs will have a day full of knowledge of resources and the last day is a 1-day workshop which provides an introduction to the essential tools and resources needed to evaluate career options, gain information for civilian employment, and understand the fundamentals of the employment process.

Step-4 must be completed no less than 90-days prior to the final out date at MPF.

Prior to registering at www.travismfrc.com/transition-assistance, follow the guidelines and requirements. You MUST complete ALL requirements for your TIER (1, 2 or 3) prior to scheduling your appointment.

Please forward your completed documents to your assigned TAP counselor for review prior to scheduling your appointment. If you have additional questions, please contact your counselor. If you do NOT have all requirements completed for the CAPSTONE appointment, you may be rescheduled.

Transitioning Service members will have the option of selecting one or more two-day individual Training Tracks aligned with their personal goals: Department of Labor Employment, Accessing Higher Education, Career Exploration & Planning, and Entrepreneurship Tracks.
